Ultralight weather protection for the ultralight/minimalist hammock camping experience. [envira-gallery id=”177345″]

Description

Ultralight weather protection for the hardcore hammock camper! Made completely from .51 Dyneema® Composite Fabric you will be traveling light and dry with the Falcon Tarp. We began with a traditional asymmetrical tarp shape then added panels on the opposing sides, which provides great protection on all four corners of the tarp. Rather than the traditional 2 sheet Dyneema® tarp, this tarp uses only one sheet of Dyneema®, which reduces costs significantly.

Does this work with 12 feet chameleon?

    • Barb

This tarp is 11-feet. We recommend a 12-foot tarps in most cases for a 12-foot hammock. -Gwendolyn

What kind of hardware are on the ridgeline and side tie-out points?

In the never ending hunt for the “perfect combo”, how does this pair with a Mark2?

    Thanks for the great gear!

    • Customer Service

We do not recommend. When we announce the release of the Mark2, you will see an option specifically for the Mark2. Thanks for inquiring!

This deserves reviews! My initial impressions are great, what a clever tarp design!

Make no mistake that this is a minimalist tarp, you need to be comfortable with dialing in setup and maybe even middle of night adjustment as conditions warrant. It is like a trimmed down hex tarp, with a little bit pointier angles at the ridge line connections and strong cat cuts on the sides.

In exchange you get great quality construction, 4.5 oz on my kitchen scale with generous stuff sack, better weather coverage than a traditional parallelogram asymmetric tarp, and a great price for a dyneema tarp. I may use the stuff sack as a ditty bag for electronics in my backpack, sort of a two-fer. I look forward to spending time in the field with some weather, and plan to come back with further impressions and photos.

You also get a good go-to-ground wonky half pyramid option in addition to the usual A frame setup people use with hex tarps (which I’ll come back with photos to explain).

I enjoy my falcon tarp. It is a great three season tarp if you really want to go the ultralight minimalist route like I prefer. Pair this with a halfwit hammock and you’re about as light as you can be with a hammock set up.

I’ve had this tarp out in moderate storms and wind, only getting some slight misting in the most extreme conditions. Storm mode requires a low hang. What I normally do is I leave the tarp tied to one tree hanging and that way it is ready for quick deployment. Now if the sky looks sinister before I settle in for the night I’ll deploy the tarp.

To me the Falcon Tarp is the perfect balance between utility and ultralight. It will provide plenty of cover if you have attention to detail.

Is this a good fit to pair with a Hellbender hammock and do you offer it in xenon 1.1?

    • Alex Thomas

We do not offer this tarp in Xenon. This is a very small tarp and should only be used in fair weather. It will fit over the Hellbender just fine.
