  1. Johann Hoepfner

I love the concept and weight of the half-wit – bugnet without zippers. But 58” is really to narrow for me, I would prefer staying in or close to my comfort sizes of 11 foot/66” wide. Any chance you will do an XL-Version ?

    • Dave Gantz

Hi Johann, we responded to your question via email.

    hi!
The Half-Wit in Wide configuration (68″ i believe) and cloud71 fabric would be the “absolut-ultimate-ultralight-hammock” for long trail hikes and tall guys (1.96m tall), right?
    ANY chance thats possible??

And if not, which would you recommend then?
    Thanks!

    • Dave Gantz

We only have Hexon 1.6 fabric in wide.

  3. Cory Hawes

What weight of mesh is used for the half bugnet in the Half-wit? If it isn’t 0.5oz / yd^2, is it possible to request this, and would it make an appreciable difference in overall weight?

  4. scott2

Does the Knotty Mod help with the extra fabric at the head end? I’ve been using a streamliner for a while now to avoid that flap that folds over and hits me in the face.

  5. Patrick Brown

I see others have asked about an option for 11’ long and wider. Is there any chance of having one made? Looking at Hexon 1.2 fabric. At least 65” wide. Would prefer 68” wide thou. Thx

What diameter shock cord do you recommend for DIY knotty mods?

    • Dave Gantz

      3/32 shock cord works great.

Has anyone run the ridgeline under the netting? This would allow access to my storage bag from under the net,

    • Customer Service

Hi David, no, the hammock is simply not designed for this. You could consider having your storage bag at the foot end of your hammock where the bugnet will not interfere. Or you may prefer a different type of hammock, like the Chameleon of the Half-Zipped or one of our Netless hammocks. Thanks for inquiring.

Could this be manufactured with the Cloud 71 fabric?

    • Alex Thomas

No. The only hammock that we can make with Cloud 71 is our netless hammock.

I am a big boy (6ft 260lbs) so I got the 1.6 hexon version and it’s incredibly comfortable.
Initially, I was sent the wrong suspension system, but the folks at Dutchware gear quickly sent the correct system and even let me keep the other one.
I have been sleeping in this thing basically every night since I got it and haven’t had any problems, in fact I sleep better in this than I did on my old mattress, despite normally being a side/stomach sleeper.
I will be using the Half-Wit next year for my 2nd Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail and so will my younger, taller brother.
Having tried many other hammocks over many years of long distance hiking, I can safely say that this is the best hammock for big guys.
